At THE ERA, we do not just source fabrics from modern, commercial catalogs. Instead, we also hunt for the lost chapters of tailoring history—specifically, the rare, finite reserves of vintage British deadstock. These are cloths woven decades ago by master artisans who operated under standards of time, water purity, and patience that no longer exist in today’s accelerated world.
When a roll from our British archive is fully cut, that specific expression of sartorial history ceases to exist. It cannot be re-ordered. It cannot be repeated. It belongs entirely to the individual who commissions it.
I. The Saddleworth Heritage: Pedal-Weaved Wool
Nestled along the border of Greater Manchester and the West Riding of Yorkshire lies Saddleworth—a valley steeped in the centuries-old tradition of English woollen manufacture.
Our current archive houses a scarce selection of genuine Saddleworth wool, produced on traditional pedal-driven horizontal looms before the era of total industrial automation.
The Significance: Pedal-weaving is a symbiotic dialogue between the artisan and the fiber. By controlling the loom mechanically through foot-pedal rhythm rather than high-velocity electricity, the tension of the yarn remains low and fluid.
The Result: A cloth with an incredibly robust, structural drape, yet a remarkably soft, springy handle. It possesses an organic character and individual irregularities that modern computer-calibrated looms completely erase. It is wool with a pulse.
II. The English Sovereign: Mink Cashmere
During the mid-20th century, British luxury mills achieved global legendary status by blending the finest underfleece of the Capra Hircus (Cashmere) goat with the ultra-fine, glossy guard hairs of genuine mink.
The Significance: Woven in historic Yorkshire mills utilizing the soft, calcium-rich waters of the local rivers for the final fulling (washing and finishing) process, this vintage Mink Cashmere represents the absolute pinnacle of post-war textile opulence.
The Result: The addition of mink introduces a subtle, liquid-like luster to the matte warmth of cashmere. It creates a fabric with an unparalleled weight-to-warmth ratio and a visual depth that shifts elegantly under cinematic lighting.
