The Shooting Suit

A traditional shooting suit is usually made up of three to five elements. At its core are a jacket, a waistcoat or vest, and breeks or trousers, with additional pieces added as required. When building a wardrobe from the ground up, it’s best to start with breeks, a shooting vest, and a field coat or jacket. Tweed continues to be the enduring favourite, valued for its heritage appeal as well as its durability and functionality in the field.

The Tweed

Select tweed carefully, choosing muted tones that blend into the countryside. Greens, browns, rusts, charcoals, and subtle touches of beige or pale blue provide effective camouflage while maintaining elegance. The time of the year and conditions should also be considered when selecting the weight of your tweed.

The Tweed

Choose tweed with care, favouring understated shades that sit naturally within the landscape. Hues such as green, brown, rust, charcoal, and soft hints of beige or pale blue offer discreet camouflage while retaining a refined appearance. The season and prevailing weather should also guide your choice, particularly when deciding on the weight and density of the cloth.

Shirt & Tie

Steer clear of crisp white or vivid blue shirts, as they sit awkwardly against tweed. Softer tones and subtle patterns—such as country checks, plaids, corduroy, or restrained motifs—work far more harmoniously with the overall look.

A tie is an integral finishing touch, lending depth and refinement. Rather than plain, high-contrast colours, opt for knitted, cashmere, or patterned ties, ideally with understated motifs or countryside-inspired designs.

Finishing Touches

A tweed cap completes the outfit while providing warmth and protection for long days outdoors. Traditional flat caps or baker-boy styles both suit the field. In colder weather, thoughtful layering ensures comfort without sacrificing style.

Finishing Touches

A tweed cap brings the look together while offering warmth and practical protection during long hours outdoors. Classic flat caps and baker-boy styles are both well suited to the field. In colder conditions, considered layering allows you to stay comfortable while maintaining a polished appearance.
